Character Creation

The 5 Ws

When making a character, it can be helpful to answer Who, What, When, Where, and Why.

This is useful for creating Player characters and NPCs!

Who?

Who is your character?

Who do they want to be?

Who do they consider family?

When?

When in their life are they adventuring?

How old/wise are they?

When will they consider their goals complete?

What?

What does your character look like?

What are their morals?

What languages do they speak?

Where?

Where is your character from?

Where are they going?

Where have they been?

Why?

Why does this character exist?

Why are they a part of this group?

Why do they stay with this group?

Starting Items

All characters start with whatever weapons they want!

Think about at least 1 weapon for close-range and far-range.
They also start with other Items you think makes sense for their character (discuss this with your GM).
Basic adventuring Items are assumed to be had by someone in your party (like rope, ammo, torches, etc.)

An example starting inventory

1 Longsword that glows with an eternal fire

1 Bow with arrows

A necklace from my mother

2 Fast Potions

A child's toy

Actions, Abilities, STATs, Experience

(AP Cost) Actions [Range] are underlined

You can do these in Combat by spending Action Points (AP).

Actions can't go through Hard boundaries or past their [Range].

EPIndicates that an Action can be used on the Enemy Phase.

Abilities are italicized

These are passive, always active, or triggered by something.

STATS & Experience

Throughout your game, you'll gain Experience.

You can put an Experience point into one of your STATs.

Experience Points in each STAT are tracked as XP.

You can increase the Level of a STAT by having enough XP in it.

Levelling up a STAT gives you access to new Actions & Abilities.

What Stats, Actions, and Abilities you have depend on what character sheet(s) you're using.

SimpleTop has a default character sheet you can use, but the Groups might have a custom character sheet you like better!

     Default STATs

The default STATs in SimpleTop are Sense, Tenacity, Aptitude, and Tale-Weaving.

Sense represents how in touch you are with who, and what, is around you. In combat, this lets you heal and block damage.

Tenacity represents how powerful you are, or how easily you surpass your mental barriers. In combat, this increases your damage and health, and gives you some self healing.

Aptitude represents how in touch you are with you inner power.

In combat, this provides a variety of Actions to use.

Tale-Weaving represents how much you affect the world you're in. In combat, this allows you to change dice rolls and heal a bit.
